The Concept

Goal

The event aims to attract the cities and their leaders, as well as the general public and public and private financial institutions to become the first international event B2G – Business to Government.

The birth of a new economy

The Bright Green Cities was born in December 2009 during the Bright Green – parallel event during the Copenhagen Conference, COP 15 – the reason for its name. For the first time, 170 entrepreneurs from around the world have gathered to view the most important sustainable technologies available on the planet, encouraging joint ventures between green technology companies, financial groups, public sector and media.

At the time, entrepreneurs and green technology companies from various countries evaluated that for the green economy to grow and be disseminated we should talk less and present more cases in a practical way, to main targets: cities, institutions, financial groups and media. This is the only way to develop the green industry and to find more efficient solutions.

From the success of the event in Copenhagen, a group of experts belonging to the industries and associations from around the world in the area of sustainable energy and technology began to organize the 2011 event to be held in Rio de Janeiro. The group had in mind the booming economy in Brazil, the Rio+20 Conference, the World Cup 2014, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the country’s growing importance in recent years.

Bright Green Cities (BGC)- 2011

The BGC was the first event of Green Economy to gather public and private managers, green technology companies and financial institutions to promote and to understand how to make it financially possible to implement these technologies. This meeting was the starting point for collaboration among all sectors of the economy, building a legacy for the UN Conference in Rio in 2012, the Rio+20.

There was also the launch of the Bright Green Book, “The Green Book of the 21st Century,” which contains a selection of 100 important initiatives in the consolidation of the world’s green economy in the last 10 years. Thus, BCG was devoted not only as a space for discussion on alternatives to the intelligent and sustainable development of the planet, but also as a stage for presentation of solutions and initiatives that have been successful in this area.

The success of BGC was complemented by a strong promotion and new partnerships with some major news agencies, traditional media and online through social networks and with organizations involved in urban planning and technology.

Green Economy – 2012

For 2012, the event will happen again in Rio de Janeiro, now entitled Green Economy, relating to its main theme, as well as the UN Conference – Rio+20.

The format and objectives of the event remains the same as 2011, but expectations are exceeded. Due to the Rio+20, it is expected a group of companies, investors and government even bigger and more influential, since the leaders of almost all nations of the continent will be in town. For green technology companies and financial investors, this moment is unique.

In order to guarantee the success of this event, the organizers are traveling worldwide to promote the event and find the best partnerships. In the website you can find news releases and photos of these trips.
